Artist's Statement This group of paintings, entitled "Things as They Are", is an extension of a body of work begun four years ago, in which I explore the manifest and the mysterious life of things. While I endeavour to record their quiet dignity and occasional exuberance, the humble objects depicted in my paintings speak for themselves. They, not I, determine what they wish to impart and what they hold back from view.

Nuclear Winter
MOP: 2/39 Abercrombie St, Chippendale
Thursday - Saturday 1 - 6pm, Sunday+Monday 1 - 5pm
uclear Winter is an exhibition of paintings from a series that Marc Dempsey has been working on for ten years. It is a futuristic fictional portrayal of cities in an apocalyptic atmosphere. The project has developed over a long period in parallel with other projects but has never been exhibited in its own context. This series, previously dubbed 'Black City', is a projection of a future that appears in various phases of the chaos and anarchy that might follow large-scale nuclear-armed warfare in what are now fairly stable cities.

Margie's images derive from personal, symbolic, figurative imagery such as water, fish, boats, horses, houses, figures layered with landscapes and sky states that are configured in such a way as to convey a dream like quality that bares little relationship to literal visual experience.   "I would like the viewer to feel or recognise something that exists just below the level of consciousness, something that links with their own dreams or personal images.

Guantanamo: If the Light Goes Out
ACP - Australian Centre for Photography

Presented as part of Reportage 2010. For eight years the American naval base at Guantanamo Bay on the island of Cuba has been home to hundreds of Muslim men, labeled 'the worst of the worst'. In this exhibition Edmund Clark documents three notions of home; the naval base at Guantanamo which is home to the American community; the camps where their detainees were held, and the homes where former detainees, never charged with any crime, now find themselves trying to rebuild their lives.
