Held in an informal café environment, Thought Café offers guests the opportunity to engage in discussion about Jewish learning and ethics and provide a platform for opinion forming. A small group in a cosy cafe sharing thoughts over a hot coffee. Each session will feature a facilitator who specialises in the specific topic of the evening. Bounce ideas, share your views, you never know, you might learn a thing or two?

Marc Andrews was in Israel during the gay shootings in 2009 and was deeply affected by the event. He has written a book which is being released this month in memory of the anniversary of the shootings. He will talk about his experiences and read exerpts from his book.

Aaron Rosen
Dr Aaron Rosen is a Research Fellow in Jewish History and Culture at Oxford University, and has previously been a post-doctoral fellow at Columbia University after earning his PhD from Cambridge University. Dr Rosen writes and teaches on a range of topics related to modern art and Jewish thought. His first book, Imagining Jewish Art (Oxford: Legenda, 2009), looked at how modern Jewish painters have made sense of the largely Christian heritage of Western art. Dr Rosen is currently at work on a second book entitled The Art of Interfaith Dialogue, which will investigate parallels between modern Jewish, Christian, and Muslim artists. View sessions

International guest speaker: Tamar Bilu - former member of Machsom Watch (Checkpoint watch)

Tamar's Bio: 

Tamar was born in Israel, served in the army, and got a BA in Social Work from the Hebrew University, as well as an M.A. in Psychology from Antioch University in the U.S. In addition, Tamar studied and practiced psychotherapy and group analysis.
Tamar worked in mental health settings, adoption agency and in the rehabilitation Dept. of the Ministry of Defense (treating disabled war veterans and bereaved families). She had a private practice as a psychotherapist, treating individuals and couples.
Over ten years ago Tamar retired from the ministry of defense and more recently, from her private practice. 
Until recently, Tamar was a member of Machsom Watch (checkpoint watch)    -   "an organisation of peace activist Israeli women against the Israeli Occupation of the territories and the systematic repression of the Palestinian nation" - (From the Network website - http://www.machsomwatch.org/)

Is it the media’s responsibility to provide context to Israeli actions? Is it the media’s responsibility to show Israel beyond the conflict? How can members of the community respond?
